I'm currently on a 12 month OPT that expires on September 15, 2016. (In 14 days!)
I'm mailing my application for the STEM extension OPT to USCIS as soon as I can. However, I'm waiting for my i20, which I likely won't get until Sep 9, 2016 (which is a Friday).
So: if I mail my complete application to USCIS Dropbox in Phoenix, AZ on Fedex overnight so it arrives by Sept. 12 dropbox, will it have been too late?!??
As long as they receive the OPT extension application before the current OPT expiry date, the student is automatically granted a 180 day extension.
My biggest fear is that Sept 12 is probably too late. I don't know if they would acknowledge that the application was received. Sad
Can anyone help shed any light on this? Who can I ask?
I'm asking my university to help expedite this, but I don't know if they will help.
