Hello Seniors
Field of interest: MS in CS (NLP and ML specialization)
Scores:
College - Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (A Central University)
CGPA - 9.33/10
Branch - Electronics & Comm. Engg.
GRE - 329 (Q:167, V:162, AWA: expecting 3.5+)
TOEFL - 103
Internships:
1. Summer Intern at Language Technologies and Research Center(LTRC), IIIT-Hyderabad. 2.5 months, worked on a research project in NLP.
2. Programming Intern at IIIT-Delhi, 1 month (no LOR), worked in computer vision.
Papers:
1. Short paper in ICON-2015 (Best NLP conference in India and South-East Asia), first and only author.
Projects:
1. NLP project on abstract text summarization (major)
2. NLP project on word-vectors and sentiment analysis (minor)
3. NLP project on Q/A system using NLIDB (minor)
4. NLP project on graph based sentence fusion (minor)
5. Wireless Weather Stations (major project of B.tech, not relevant)
6. Misc. embedded system projects (electronics based, not relevant)
LORs:
1. IIIT-hyderabad assistant prof. (internship mentor, NLP field, strong)
2. Jamia Millia Islamia prof. (ex-HOD, 2 courses taught, mod-strong)
3. Jamia Millia Islamia associate prof. (1 course, major and minor project mentor, strong)
My major concerns are:
1. I'm heavily inclined towards NLP and ML (research oriented).
2. I'm shifting from ECE to CS, though I've done relevant work in NLP.
3. I've graduated in 2017 and working on a paper with 2 Princeton undergrads (remotely).
How will they perceive the above points?
Shortlisted universities (Keep in my mind, I'm research inclined):
Ambi:
CMU (MS in CS, MS in HLT)
UMass, Ahmerst
GaTech
Columbia
Mod:
USC
UCSB
UCSC
UCSD
Safe:
NEU

Feel free to add/remove or move-up/move-down any universities. Thank you!!
