Hi guys,

I got admits in both ASU and SJSU for computer engineering. I am confused where should I join. I know lot of you might be thinking why am I thinking so much, ASU outranks SJSU in all aspects. But please listen to my plight.

I am an undergraduate in Electrical and Electronics and has three years of work experience as Automation Test Engineer in IT industry. I am more inclined to conentrate in the software side of computer and I would like to specialize either in Embedded Sytems /Computer Networks.

In ASU i got admit for Computer Engineering(Electrical concentration) and SJSU don't have such specific concentrations in Computer Engineering.

1) ASU's ranks 27 for Electrical Engineering courses and they have excellent courses in VLSI and Computer Networks. While SJSU has good courses in embedded systems and Networks. But SJSU is not as reputed as ASU. SJSU has location advantages for interships and jobs while ASU too has lot of companies in Electrical domain around it.

2) ASU's core course is ALgorithms and Foundations and Random signal theory while that of SJSU is Computer Archeitecture , System Software and Advanced Computer Design. Moreover SJSU has 3 compulsory pre-requisite courses in Operating Systems, Object Oriented Design and Datastructures and Mircroprocessors. Algorithms course in ASU really attracts me while I am also inclined to the courses in SJSU.

3) At ASU I can't take a more software courses since I got admit in Electrical concentration. I can take to a maximum of 2 CSE papers while SJSU doesn't has such restrictions.

3) In the last year, ASU has comprehensive exam while SJSU has Master Project. I have heard many students in ASU fail in this comprehensive exam which kind of scares me. ( I know if I learn well I could clear it.). But isn't an advantage to do project so that I could learn more and moreover I could have that in my resume?

3) I live in San Jose, California. So basically if I am joining SJSU I can save on hostel fees and food and moreover I will be eligible for instate tuition fees.

I am really confused where to join. ASU has world class faculty and a good name. while in SJSU I can save money and can take the courses I like. But I am not sure whether the quality of education will be equivalent to that in ASU. I can always come back to California after education and look for jobs here.

But is the ranking and name of ASU worth the money I am saving if I join SJSU?
Can some one help me Sad
