Hi all,
I plan to apply to the PhD programs of a few US universities in Fall 2017. My primary research interest is in visual computing, and I am ok in working in any sub area within this field. However, I would really like to work in image/video processing, computer vision, and machine learning on visual data. My prior research experience (during M.tech at one of the old IITs, and currently at a corporate R&D lab) has also been in these very areas. Now, the confusing factor is that work in these areas is spread out between Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science (CS) departments. How to take this factor into account while applying? While applying to the ECE department of an university, is it ok to mention names of 1 or 2 CS profs from the same university that I am interested in working with along with the ECE profs? Or do I need to send in a separate application to the CS dept? Since my B.tech is in Electronics and Communication Engg, and my M.tech is in Electrical Engineering (specialization in signal processing, communications and networks), I am also wondering whether I would stand any chance in the CS depts at all. Please clarify.
Thanks in advance.
