Hi everyone!
Didn't know if the PhD thread was active so I'm posting here instead. Let me know if I need to move it there.
Will be really thankful if somebody could evaluate my profile for Fall'18 PhD programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Systems Biology. I'm keen on applying through engineering schools for the same.
Profile:
BITS Pilani | 8.56 | MSc. Biological Sciences + B.E Computer Science
GRE: 326 | TOEFL: 117
Research Experience:
In BITS:
Experimental/ Wet Lab Biology:
1.5 years in RNA Biology( 1 poster in National RNA Conference)
6 months on Adipocytes.
Computational Biology:
1 year project on RNA Structure (1 poster in top international virology conference ICID, manuscript will be submitted but might not accepted by deadline)
6 month project on QSAR & Docking studies for drug discovery
6 month project on CNN based Biomedical Image classification
Independent Projects:
These projects were conceived and implemented by classmates and me (with gracious help form Prof's grants ofc) Took roughly 6 months and 5 months each to complete.
Raspi based ECG-arrhythmia classifier - Presented at MobiHealth Conference in Milan, Published in LNICST (2nd Author)
ANN based EEG classifier - Presented in IEEE EMBC'17, Korea (top conference in biomedical), Published in IEEE Explore (1st Author)
External:
Summer Internships:
Protein Modeling, Cheminformatics and Pharmacology - Sankara Nethralaya Hospital, Chennai - 3 months
Computational Systems Biology - Systems Biology Center New York, NY, USA
[Khorana Scholarship Award'16 by IUSSTF and UWisc Madison, fully funded] - 3 months
Current Research:
Masters thesis at Systems Biology Center, NY, USA - fully funded RA position (till June next year)- Working on AI and statistical applications on gene ontology datasets
Recos: Hopefully all three strong.
Awards: Khorana Scholarship'16 and Merit Scholarship by BITS for a year.
Universities applying to : (Need some serious help with this I think)
Applying to comp/sys bio programs in these schools.
1) Boston Univ - BiomedE
2) Caltech - BiomedE
3) MIT - BioE
4) UPenn - BiomedE
5) UMich - Biomed
6)UWash - BioE
7) UT Austin - BiomedE
8) UCSD - BiomedE
9) Purdue - BiomedE
10) UWisc Mad - Biomed DS
I'd be grateful if you could give me some important pointers regarding universities. All of them have Profs and Labs that are very interesting and align with my future research interests. Also, since PhD programs are uber competitive are there fair chances that I may land atleast one? [Nobody can be sure, but, is there a chance I might have a decent shot at one]
Infobank is in the signature.
