Hi All,
Out of all my admits, I have ended up choosing between TAMU (MS in EE specialization analog and mixed signal) and Oregon State (MS in EE Integrated Electronics group – Analog/Mixed Signal/RF)
(From Oregon state, received only departmental acceptance, yet to receive acceptance from grad school)
Interest: My interests lie in Analog/RF IC Design.
Oregon State has excellent faculty (Un-Ku Moon, Natarajan), great analog group, presence of Intel, good courses
TAMU is located in Texas (good presence of electronics industries), great analog group, excellent faculty, huge alumni network, good brand name
I have few queries
1) Academic Reputation: Both universities have great analog/mixed signal group and provide a good number of courses in that field. But overall TAMU is more reputed than Oregon State. So, does school name matter on your resume in the longer run (as in when you are applying for jobs or Ph.D. positions)?
2) Research Opportunities: I know the professors in both the universities are excellent. So, how easy/difficult it is to get an RA or work with a professor like Un-Ku Moon, Natarajan, Sanchez-Sinencio?
3) Job Opportunities: TAMU has huge alumni network. Also, it is close to Austin (electronics hub). Oregon has not that many industry giants (I might be wrong here). Can anyone shed some light on job/intern opportunities and what other factors should one take into account?
4) Financial Considerations: I haven’t received any financial aid from both universities. And TAMU is cheaper than Oregon, so in this regard, TAMU certainly has an edge.
5) Oregon’s a bit selective as compared to TAMU in analog field. So, the peer group is very good at Oregon. How does this factor come into play?
Keeping Analog/RF in mind, can anyone suggest me which university to consider?
