I have two admit from UMN Twin Cities and UMass Amherst for their respective MS CS programs and am interested in ML/AI.
As per my knowledge:
1) UMass has a stellar ML/AI research scene and the courses are top notch. However the cost of tuition is around 56K for two years around with 500-600 living expenditures pm. There are no TA/RA opportunities as it is prohibited by policy.
2) UMN has a good ML/AI research scene and an excellent data mining one. The tuition is around 50K for two years and living expenses are about the same. Almost everyone in the CS dept gets TA/RA by the third semester at UMN. This drastically reduces the total cost.
I will be using loan( along with my savings) to fund my education.
Can seniors please suggest the better of these two based on:
1) Research in ML/AI
2) Internship and Job Opportunities in the same field (ML/AI).
My main question is that if I do not consider the cost difference will UMN still be an exciting place for ML/AI research as compared to UMass?
Sorry if this post is all over the place. I'm very confused right now.
