Applying for MS in Computer Science for Fall 2017.
GRE: 331 (Q: 167, V: 164, AWA: 4.5)
Both Quants and Verbal are in the 93-94 percentile.
TOEFL: Expecting 110+
Acads: 58% (Pune University).
My college was a new one, so even the topper had about 70%.
In my third year I was ranked second, but I'm not sure there's any particular way to back it up since we don't have relative grading.
I also have a year down in my second year, but after that I've consistently scored 60%+ (First Class).
A major issue my first two years was language. Most of the teachers and students used Hindi or Marathi to communicate and I wasn't very familiar with either, and so struggled. During the year down I watched a bunch of Hindi movies and got bit more comfortable with it which helped a lot.
Work Experience: 8 months (Ongoing)
Projects: A couple of Android applications (unpublished), and similar small projects not very academic so I don't think they apply here. My final year project was also an Android + Desktop application to do with security, and it had a facial recognition element to it, but there's not much of a paper trail, which I'll explain below.
Papers: I have a strong feeling that the people in my team who were responsible for documentation likely plagiarized a good portion of it, so I do not wish to include it in my application.
Courses: I have taken 15+ free online courses from places like Coursera and edX. Not sure if this helps.
Competitions: I've either won or made the finals in a few different coding competitions. The ones I made the finals of include one at IIT Bombay, and the other had over 20,000 participants from in and around Pune.
I understand that my GRE score doesn't make up for poor GPA, but my list still includes a lot of ambitious unis as well.
My list:
1. Arizona State University
2. Colorado State University
3. North Carolina State University
4. Northeastern University
5. Polytechnic University of New York (NYU Tandon)
6. SUNY Binghamton
7. SUNY Buffalo
8. SUNY Stony Brook
9. Syracuse University
10. University of Florida
11. University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
12. University of Southern California
Which ones are safe, moderate and ambitious? And are there any other universities you guys would recommend I apply to instead?
