Getting straight to the point: I applied for Spring 2017 and though I haven't got all results, I got three straight rejects, from schools which I thought were moderate for me.
I would like to give a few details to you guys before continuing further:
Rejects:
1. NCSU (Electrcial and Computer Engineering)
2. CU Boulder (Computer Engineering)
3. ASU (Computer Science)
Profile:
Graduated in 2015 - B.Tech - Electronics and Communications
GPA: 7.22/10, GRE: 330(167Q, 163V) TOEFL: 111
Work Experience: As a faculty of Mathematics at a coaching institute (Over 1 year)
Publications: 01 (On 4G technology with a significant work on algorithms) - Won the best paper award for it at an IEEE Madras Chapter Conference - ICACCS 2016. It wasn't a world-class conference but I won against people from Freescale Semiconductors so I guess it was alright. The paper will soon be uploaded to IEEE Xplore, if that makes a difference.
For the life of me I can't understand the reasons behind this. I always knew my GPA would a bit of a hurdle, however, I had hoped my GRE would be able to cover it up a bit. Asking for decision reasons from universities always invites a generic official email. Any suggestions and/or ideas would be extremely appreciated. I also have a few questions and would be glad (frankly, ecstatic currently) if seniors could help me get some answers:
1. Is this because of Spring? i.e. Should I apply to same/similar schools for Fall 2017, without much change in my profile?
2. Should I even be applying to MS in CS without sufficient background and/or work experience, or is it a lost cause? (I had hoped my LORs, paper with work on algortihms and mentioning courses completed on Coursera and other online resources would be enough)
Explanation for applying to Computer Engineering and Computer Science: I have generally applied to Comp Sc. schools with just two Comp Engg. schools to take care of the eventuality where I get a reject based on insufficient background.
Decisions Left:
1. UFL - Computer Science
2. TAMU - Computer Science
3. Rutgers - Computer Science
4. SUNY SB - Computer Science
5. NEU -Computer Science (applied a few days back, 10 days before the deadline, when I started getting rejects, wonder if that will make a difference)
6. Purdue - Computer Science
